In 1981 The Strand Theater remodeled and became a twin adult theater. In those days, before video was prevalent, the Strand presented adult movies on 35mm and 16mm film. The balcony was converted to an intimate 70 seat theater that featured gay films, very cutting edge and forward thinking for the times. For the Grand Opening the "Strand Up" featured the infamous feature film "KANSAS CITY TRUCKING COMPANY," by director Joe Gage (Tim Kincaid), who made a personal appearance for the film's opening performance. The film starred Jack Wrangler, the first gay film icon.
